The Mellon Foundation Higher Learning Program has issued a “Call for Concepts” inviting ideas for research and/or curricular projects focused on any of the following three themes:

• Civic Engagement and Voting Rights
• Race and Racialization in the United States
• Social Justice and the Literary Imagination

Grants may be for $250,000–$500,000 over three years. The University of Minnesota may submit only three proposals, and the Institute for Advanced Study will coordinate the University’s internal review and selection process. This coincides with Mellon’s multi-step process with (1) an initial project registration deadline of April 20, (2) a May 16 deadline for the submission of the final three selected projects, and (3) Mellon review and preliminary selection for invitation to develop a full proposal.
