Kao Kalia Yang
Author Kao Kalia Yang talked about her memoir, Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir (Coffee House Press, April 2008) at the IAS shortly after the book was released.
Hmong Times calls Kao Kalia Yang "one of the best Hmong American writers in the world." She is a Twin Cities-based writer whose most recent collaboration is the film The Place We Were Born, which documents the experiences of Hmong American refugees, and is the co-founder of Words Wanted, an agency dedicated to helping immigrants with writing, translating, and business services. Mitchell P. Ogden is a Ph.D. candidate in English and Asian American Studies at the University of Minnesota specializing in Hmong cultural production within and across transnational and diasporic networks.
