Who's Got the Story?
Memoir as History/History as Memoir
The Memoir Project is organized by Professors Patricia Hampl (English) and Elaine Tyler May (American Studies). This series of readings and panel discussions probes the tensions and connections between history and memoir as they are practiced in our times. Both depend on story-telling and both attempt to make sense of our personal and the greater world. Is one more trustworthy than the other? Are they opponents or boon companions in the essential human work of understanding the past and our place in it?
The Memoir Project also includes a Spring 2007 course, AMST 3920/ENGL 3090/HIST 3910 Who's Got the Story? Memoir as History/History as Memoir.
